The Nords Head North

At the beginning of the year we moved from Olympia, Washington to Anchorage, Alaska. We've moved a lot over the years, but this was definitely the most epic trip to date. We traveled for almost a week straight! We spent four days riding on the ferry from Bellingham, WA to Haines, AK, then another two days driving through the Yukon Territory in Canada and down through Alaska. We stuffed our entire family, Reese the Cat, and everything we needed into Avram's truck, and he drove us the entire way through the ice and snow and negative temperatures (did I mention that he was also hauling his boat? Yep, we were driving through Canada in the middle of winter with a boat!). The trip was long and stressful at times, but we finally made it. We've been in our house for about a month and a half now, and it's finally starting to feel like home.

I decided to take pictures during our trip, so here are a few glimpses of our time on the ferry and the ports we stopped at along the way. If you've ever been to Alaska, then you know that in the winter the sun doesn't come up until about 10:00am and sets around 3:00 or 4:00pm. It's dark and cold, but it's still pretty. The kids really liked the ferry and they still talk about how fun our trip was (for them, anyways). :)

I hope you enjoy these photos! You can also visit my Instagram account for even more pictures, or you can search the hashtag #nordsheadnorth on Instagram.
